Woof Meow Pet Tip for May 26, 2025 at Star 977 with Don Hanson – Moving to a New Home with Your Pets

MIKE DOW: – This is Woof Meow with Don Hanson on Star 977. When it comes to pets, how to best care for them, how to train them, and how to make that bond with your pet even stronger, do what so many people in Maine do: they go to Don Hanson at Green Acres Kennel Shop, at 1653 Union Street in Bangor.

DON HANSON: A survey of 1000 adults in 2020 found that 45% of those responding ranked moving as the most stressful event in their lives. Having moved 14 times, I would agree.  Dogs and cats are typically set in their ways, and a total change in their environment, such as moving to a new home, will likely be very stressful for them, which will only add to your stress. Remember, your dog can sense your stress, which can cause them to become stressed as well. To minimize the stress for all of your pets, I suggest you plan for the move long before you list your home or start looking for a new place to live. After the break, I’ll provide you with some tips to guide you through the process.
