DON: Before one seeks out a dog to become part of their family, it is essential to understand that a dog is an entirely separate species with a very different means of communicating. Dogs have a very different culture and understanding of what is acceptable and normal behavior, and we need to accept that. No matter how much we want our dog to be a furry four-footed human, that is not going to happen and would not be good for them. After the break, I’ll discuss a one-minute video that everyone who wants or has a dog should review on a regular basis.

DON: – In the Spring of 2023, the San Diego Humane Society released a one-minute video; How Would YOU Like It? It illustrates many things people often do that make our dogs uncomfortable. These include; grabbing the dog, taking the dogs food away, startling the dog when they are sleeping or resting, stealing a dogs toy and teasing them, yanking the dog around, sticking a hand in the dog’s face as a form of greeting, laying down on the dog and using them as a pillow, greeting the dog by grabbing them and hugging them, invading the dog’s space, and asking the dog to come closer and then grabbing and hugging them when they refuse.
