MIKE DOW: – Welcome to Woof Meow with Don Hanson here on Star 977. When it comes to pets, how to best care for them, how to train them, and how to make that bond with your pet even stronger, do what so many people in Maine do: they go to Don Hanson at Green Acres Kennel Shop, 1653 Union Street in Bangor and online at greenacreskennel.com, and at the ForceFreePets website at  forcefreepets.com

DON: November and December can be a joyous yet chaotic and hectic time of the year. We can look forward to several major holidays, each of which can mean more activities at school for the kids and an increased probability of guests in our home. To prepare for those activities, we must spend more time away from home attending school concerts, company parties, and family gatherings. Some people thrive on a flurry of activity, and some long for a calmer time of year. Our pets, especially dogs and cats, are typically more inclined to prefer predictability and routine. After the break, I’ll have a few tips to make things easier for you and your pets.

MIKE DOW: – For 31 years, Don has been owner and operator of Green Acres Kennel Shop, 1653 Union Street in Bangor, offering pet supplies, boarding, daycare, and grooming. Learn more at greenacreskennel.com. Don also offers education for pets and their people at forcefreepets.com.

DON: – As you get busy with the holidays, please do not forget your pet. Make sure to allocate time for them, as they miss you when you are not home as much as usual. Spending time with them also helps you relax from the holiday madness. Taking a walk, tossing a ball for your dog, or playing with your cat with a wand toy are all excellent year-round activities. With more people in your home over the holidays, it is essential that you know the signals your pets give to say, “Hey, I’m uncomfortable, please stay away.” Remember, your pet ALWAYS gets to choose who they interact with and who they wish to stay away from. Make sure your guests respect your pet’s wishes. For more tips, check out my blog post, ‘Preparing Your Pets for the Holidays.’ https://forcefreepets.com/preparing-your-pets-for-the-holidays/
