MIKE DOW: – Welcome to Woof Meow with Don Hanson here on Star 977. Don is among the most widely respected pet care professionals, and I have come to him with countless questions over the years. you will hear many of those answers here on Woof Meow.
DON HANSON: When we bring a new dog into our lives. Whether an 8-week-old puppy, a 10-year-old, a rescue dog, or anything in between, we are committing to living with another sentient being for the rest of their lives. Neuroscientists have determined that dogs are cognitively and emotionally equivalent to human toddlers. They will often require some level of human supervision and management throughout their lifetime. They are a different species and thus have different physical and emotional needs. Some of the normal behaviors they express, and which are essential to their well-being, are things we need to learn to accept. Dogs also communicate very differently than humans. So, we must learn to speak “Dog.” We’ll discuss how you can learn to do all these things after the break.
